Black Tie Baby Occasions

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

There is almost nothing that new parents enjoy more than taking advantage of the opportunity to get their babies all dressed up in the cutest and most endearing outfits that they can find and bring them out in public for the entire world to gaze upon and coo at. So, when a formal family event comes up while their infant is still in his or her infancy, the parents must jump at the chance to get little John or Christina dressed to the nines and out into public view to allow the cooing to commence.

Weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, Christenings, Baptisms, and Cousin Jane’s first Holy Communion are good examples of the type of events that will provide and excuse to get the baby all dolled up in a pint-sized tuxedo or evening gown. No matter what finery the parents may have adorned their baby in previously, nothing will compare to the sight of their little man in a tux or their precious little lady in a gown.

Tuxedos for baby boys and young children are available from a number of sources as the formal kiddie clothiers of the world must surely have worked overtime to assure the availability of these items. Some rental shops may carry them, but in many cases these are a must-buy item. Tux styles range from vest & pant sets to full on dinner jacket combos and the ever so cute “short” tuxedo. Prices to buy these classy items start at about $60.00 for infants’ sizes and go to $90.00 for a young man’s size 8 to 14.

For the precocious little ladies we can find all manner of delightful dresses and gowns that are designed to look just like their big-girl counterparts. Particularly adorable are the floral sleeveless dresses and gowns favored by flower girls and debutants the world over. The prices for these can vary wildly based upon the size, the material, the designer and other factors, but parents should be prepared to pay at least $60.00 for a dress like this in an infant size.

If the cost for infantile formal wear sounds steep to you, it probably is. $60.00 or more is a lot to spend on a garment that anyone is only going to wear once. If dressing up your babies in this sort of garb is not your cup of tea, there’s certainly no one forcing you to do so and there are plenty of lower priced options that can make your babies look incredibly cute and generate their fair share of cooing and fluttering hearts from family and friends. If you have the means and the opportunity, however many parents will tell you that the expense of the formal wear that their baby only wore one time was well worth it just for the reactions of those around them and the photographs that will last forever.

Appointment Setting: An Introduction, Not a Lifetime Commitment!

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Many of you are cold callingor introductory calling, as I prefer to think about itto set new business appointments with prospects. In order to effectively set new business appointments, it is important to determine the goal of your initial telephone call. Many of you would say that your goal is to close the sale. And that is trueclosing is your ultimate goal. Closing, however, is not the goal of your first telephone call. This is an important distinction! When making introductory calls, your goal is to set the appointment and only to set the appointment.

Every business has its own sales cycle. Getting in the door is step one. If your prospect does not know you, your company, your product or service, then she will never buy from you. So, how do you accomplish step one and get in the door?

On an introductory call, you are not selling your product or service, you are selling a meeting. You want your prospect to give you 10 to 15 minutes of their time, so that you can introduce yourself, your company, your product or your service. And that is it! At this point, you are not asking the prospect to do anything but give you time. You are not asking her to buy anything, change vendors, commit to or change anything that she normally does.

Approaching your calls this way changes the entire conversation. Suppose your prospect tells you that she already has a vendor. So what! You are not asking her to change vendors, you are asking her to meet with you so that you can introduce yourself, your company, product or service, and that way, in the future, if her situation changes, she’ll know you, she’ll know the company, product or service. Certainly, it never hurts to have a backup source! This is entirely reasonable! (By the way, if your prospect already has a vendor, that makes her a qualified prospectshe buys what you sell!)

If you think about introductory calling in this manner, the entire tenor of your conversation with your prospect changes. There is less pressure, both on you and on your prospect. It makes your manner more relaxed, and it relaxes your prospect and allows them be open to what you are saying. This works. Once you are in the door, the sales cycle can move forward.

Remember: This is an introduction, an introductory meeting, not a lifetime commitment!

Chinese Academy of Sciences Keeping Up with DARPA

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

The Chinese have designed an ARV unmanned underwater vehicle, which operates like an ROV and it seems to have some dynamic and revolutionary features. This is quite a leap forward for the Chinese and brings them up with the current UUV technologies of Universities like Berkeley, MIT, Stanford and others.

http://english.people.com.cn/200603/16/eng20060316_251029.html

Since the Chinese are pushing for space and undersea, while spending billions to build up their military these technological advances are indeed pressing forward in a Space Race both up above the atmosphere and down there. Are we in the middle of a technology build up between rivaling nations like during the cold-war, only in this case doing so in more positive pursuits of science? Or we will the United States and an emerging China super power find ourselves in a stand off in a couple of decades where we both possess superior weapons of war thru technological advancements?

For every step forward or leap in United States technology, there are a few steps right behind that from our counterpart Chinese Scientists. Is the Chinese Academy of Sciences working hard to keep up with the US Military and their research arm; DARPA? And if so, what does it all mean? Consider this in 2006.

Looking For and Buying a Home in Trinity Florida

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

When we first considered moving to Florida, our first thought was to look for a new home in Pinellas County or Hillsborough County. After all, Pinellas County is close to all those great Gulf beaches, not to mention Clearwater and St. Petersburg. Hillsborough County had the city of Tampa. There were lots of good schools here in the Tampa Bay area, too, which was important for us since we have two children. Inquiring around, we learned that all the neighboring counties operate under a school choice program. What this means is that you must apply for your first, second, and third choice schools and wait for an answer to hear if you have been accepted. Living nearby to the school of your choice does not necessarily affect your acceptance. Most families do end up getting their first choice school, but there is a small chance that if you miss the registration date or if that school is full, you may be assigned another school. Well, we missed the registration dates. As we considered the idea of a private school, we happened upon the town of Trinity in Pasco County, Florida. Trinity is a new master planned community just beyond the Pinellas County border. A new community means lots of new schools and newer construction for potential homes for our family. So we looked further.

What we found in Trinity and Trinity real estate was a wonderful surprise. Cows still graze the pastures here, giving Trinity a peaceful country setting. No traffic here, no congestion. The community was quiet but growing. New businesses and shops were sprouting up along the major roads in the area. Many beautiful subdivisions were in development. We began to explore neighborhoods and get to know the area. With several great schools in the Trinity community, we’d have no problem getting into the neighborhood schools. We decided on a home in the Fox Wood Community, Trinity’s largest subdivision. Fox Wood is a gated community with two community parks, walking trails, and a covered pavilion. There are other great neighborhoods too, like Thousand Oaks, Trinity Oaks, Trinity West, Fox Hollow, Champions Club, and Heritage Springs for those 55 years of age and over. We liked what we saw in Trinity real estate.

As for the beaches, we are still close to those great Gulf beaches of Pinellas County. Trinity is only about a 5 minute drive to the border of Pinellas. Pasco County has some beaches of its own, too, like Hudson Beach and Robert K. Rees Park. We’re close to the cities of Pinellas and Hillsborough too. In fact, with the Suncoast Parkway just a few minutes away on Rt. 54, we can shoot down to Tampa in about 20 minutes. The Tampa International Airport is so convenient too, with an easy exit right off the Suncoast.

Great beaches, schools, restaurants, shops, and metropolitan cities nearby and a great choice in real estate! That’s why we love Trinity, Florida.

Vermont Products – a Delicious Palette of Flavors for Your Palate

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Even people who do not know that the capital of Vermont is Montpelier might very well be aware that Vermont is the headquarters of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream! In general, Vermont is a food-lover’s palette of yummy food for the palate.

People do not just love Vermont because of the delicious and unique flavors of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream that are produced there, but because of other great tastes, as well. Few cheese-lovers can deny the excellent taste of Cabot cheese.

And if you are wanting something a little bit sweeter than Cabot cheese, then no doubt you will be satisfied with some of Vermont’s famous maple syrup. Once you taste Vermont’s maple syrup, you will never look at Mrs. Butterworth the same way again – Vermont maple syrup is on a completely different, higher level, than most any other syrup that you can buy at a regular grocery store. Who wants refined white sugar when the best “sugar” is available in Vermont?

Overall, Vermont is such a wealth of flavors that some people crave Vermont like other people crave chocolate or a drug. Once you have lived in Vermont and have had such easy access to such wonders of taste, it can be hard to leave and to have to eat like the rest of America.

Fortunately, Vermont products are becoming more readily available. It is possible to buy Ben & Jerry’s ice cream at practically any gas station. Other products like Annie’s Naturals Salad Dressings are also available in your regular, corner grocery store.

Of course, certain other Vermont products – like Cabot cheese and pure maple syrup and even Vermont honey – can be harder to come by, leaving people salivating at memories of their last meal of pancakes smothered in Vermont syrup or the last grilled cheese they ate with Cabot cheese.

Luckily, if you really need your “fix” of Vermont products, you can now buy many of them online. Even perishable items like Cabot cheese can be sent directly to your home.

And if you love Vermont food products, you will no doubt love many of their other products, as well. Vermont is famous for their rustic furniture, outdoor furniture, and even their cutting boards. The wood that comes from the green hills of Vermont is used to make some very high quality pieces.

Also, perhaps you did not know it, but one of your favorite clothing manufacturers is located in Vermont, as well – Orvis. In reality, the list of Vermont products can go on and on. For such a small state, Vermont is packed full of great taste and great products that are definitely worth checking out.

Just as a warning: once you try Vermont products, there may be no going back.

The Rich History of Wild Roses

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Wild roses, of the genus Rosa, are those naturally occurring natives found in Northern Hemispheres around the globe. Wild Roses can be found in forests, canyons, logged wastelands and thickets. They have continued to grow throughout the course of history and across a range of different terrains. Most modern day roses we know are mixed offspring of these wild roses.

Wild roses have had a rich history. They played roles in Greek and Roman culture, symbolizing themes such as love and allegiance. Later they became sought after for cosmetic, medicinal and religious purposes as well. However, with the beginnings of large-scale worldwide trade, rose horticulture and hybridization took root. This forever changed the wild rose landscape from a relatively small number of wild roses across the planet’s surface to today’s world with thousands-upon-thousands of rose varieties.

There are plenty of advantages to cultivating wild roses in modern-day rose gardens. Wild roses are strong, disease resistant plants, which can be grown in almost any less-than-ideal location. They are not dependent on regular fertilization and can tolerate some drought. Requiring essentially no care, wild roses are able to spread on their own, can handle being crowded and withstand transplanting at almost any time of year.

Some popular varieties of wild roses include:

Rosa Nutkana
An arching shrub with pink petals, the rosa nutkana grows in milder climates. Though it is fairly weather-tolerant, this shrub is best cultivated in sunny and well-drained locations. Prune often as thickets grow quite quickly.

Rosa Rugosa
This species, native to China, Korea and Japan, has been made into a number of different rose cultivars. It is a fast growing pink flower with rose-hips resembling small tomatoes. It prefers full sunlight and well-drained acidic soil. Since it is a salt-tolerant plant, it is an ideal shrub in coastal conditions. Light infrequent pruning will help keep growth of the Rosa rugosa under control.

Rosa Foliolosa
This is a member of the rosaceae family and is also know as leafy rose or prairie rose. The rosa foliolosa is a lovely little rose found mainly in Central and North Central Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. It is small in size with very thin wood, very elegant little foliage, with usually nine tiny leaflets per leaf. One of its great characteristics is its fern-like bright green foliage.

Rosa Blanda
Another member of the rosaceae family, the rosa blanda, also known as meadow rose is a shrub-like thornless plant which grows to about three to four feet tall and prefers rich soil in full sun to light shade. It produces lovely pink flowers between June and August and the fruit resembles small apples.

Is “Plan B” Ready?

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Business owners and entrepreneurs are, by nature, risk takers and adventurers. If we didn’t have that “optimism gene” floating around, not much of any progress would ever get done. But every so often the adventurous get in trouble.

They plan a new venture – perhaps a new product, service, expansion into new geography – whatever, and they hardly pause in their quest for the golden ring to plan a strategy that will minimize their exposure in case that great idea turns out to be an “Edsel.”

Unless we are talking about a “bet the company” type of venture (and I’m not!), contingency planning for most new ventures a small business undertakes can be done with the addition of four simple paragraphs to the plan written at the planning stage of the new venture (you do have a written plan, don’t you?).

Paragraph One: How will we measure to see if this project is producing the desired results?

Paragraph Two: How many resources (time, money, effort, etc.) will we invest to make it produce the desired results?

Paragraph Three: How will we close down a project that will not produce the desired results?

Paragraph Four: How will we minimize losses in a project that will not produce the desired results?

Just by having “Plan B” thought out and written lessens the difficult task of making decisions in the heat of a battle if things are not going well. If results are not going as planned, pull out “Plan B” and read it. Compare the current results to the projections. Realize that when “Plan B” was written, it was based upon assumptions. The data you have, once the project is underway, will be different from those assumptions you based “Plan B” so it can, and probably should, be changed based on the hard data that is now at your disposal.

Hopefully all your new initiatives will be hugely successful, but just in case, minimize your losses by being prepared with “Plan B.”

What Are The Main Benefits Of Trampoline Exercise?

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Many people might look at someone bouncing on a trampoline
and wonder what all the excitement is about. But the truth
is, trampolines are great for physical fitness of children
and adults, as well as for influencing other things such as
balance.

Trampolines are used regularly by athletes who skate,
dance, dive, or do gymnastics. That’s because bouncing on
a trampoline takes more than just the effort of jumping up
and down. It takes coordination to achieve consistent
height, balanced landings, and the ability to perform
complex maneuvers without injury.

These athletes learn to hone skills important to their own
sports, by using the mechanics of the trampoline. This can
include techniques like turns, flips, and splits.

Children who learn how to use a trampoline properly, gain a
new sense of freedom, and the thrill of soaring into the
air. A few lessons can go a long way towards giving them a
sense of achievement and self-confidence, especially if
they have tried other, more difficult sports and not been
successful.

Adults can benefit from either full size trampolines, or
the smaller ones known as “rebounders”, designed to be used
in the home. Not only does the gentle activity of bouncing
on a trampoline strengthen voluntary and involuntary
muscles, it helps bones to become stronger, and stay
denser.

The aerobic activity involved strengthens the heart, and
provides you with many of the same benefits as jogging,
with less stress on weight bearing joints.

The “G” force, or effects of gravity in jogging, can
actually increase the impact on your feet, to a value that
is equivalent to four times your body weight. Using a
trampoline can reduce that stress by 80%, providing a safe,
effective way to exercise for older adults, and those with
certain physical challenges.

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Mutual fund is a corporate body, which works as an intermediary and invests in financial markets. Mutual funds collect money from the public and invest in financial instruments like equity, government securities, bonds, debentures etc.

There are different types of mutual funds available, like, a fund, which invests only in Pharmaceutical companies, is called as Pharma fund and the mutual fund companies name the funds on their own.
