Health And Safety Costs Tesco £24,000

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

One of the country’s largest employer’s supermarket operators Tesco discovered no matter how big you are you cannot escape action from the Health and Safety Executive.

Following an incident at one of their Leicestershire stores the company has been fined £10,000. The incident involved one of its employees who worked in the supermarket’s bakery.

Evidence given at the City’s Magistrates court decided that the giant supermarket operator was guilty in that it did not ensure the welfare, health and safety of its bakery staff.

One employee had received extremely serious burns across her feet while engaged in exchanging hot cooking oil in one of the bakery’s doughnut machines.

As a result of the incident the lady was left with not only severe pain but permanent scarring to her feet. In court it was discovered that she had been working for over 24 months in the bakery section but had not received anything more than basic training.

Furthermore the court heard how she was not supplied with the correct equipment to perform their duties. According to evidence given by the HSE if she had received the proper training and had the correct equipment then she would not have received the injuries.

The court also awarded the unnamed employee compensation in the amount of £1000 as well as over £13,000 in costs bringing Tesco’s total to over £24,000 plus legal fees.

All employers no matter the size of the company need to be fully up to date with health and safety standards to avoid accidents and subsequent fines. Workplace Law Training can assist with a range of accredited NEBOSH training courses.

Golf Equipment Doesn’t Work

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Golf equipment doesn’t work? Did that catch your attention? I hope so. Now keep reading.

Just the other day I was watching the Golf Channel and they were talking yet again about the latest and greatest drives and irons. This golf equipment (new technology) that has gotten totally out of hand, is making these companies a ton of money.

Why?

Because they prey on vulnerable, frustrated golfers looking to play better through golf equipment.

Here’s my beef!

It’s not working! I don’t care what these companies say…I see golfers everyday, buying new golf equipment and STILL not playing any better. It’s a known fact that the average golf handicap has not gone down in over 20 years!

It’s NOT the equipment that’s going to improve your game…it’s YOU!

You swing that club. You show up to the range or course. It all depends on your current physical condition how well you will swing…and especially for 18 holes.

Is that registering with you yet?

How many new clubs have you bought lately? Did it allow you to play better…consistently? Be honest. Don’t let your pride answer that question. Just state the facts. Are your scores lower? Do you swing with better consistency?

These are questions to constantly ask yourself to make sure you are seeing progress. If you’re not…then save your money and get working on YOU!

It’s always fun to see the new golf equipment that’s coming out…but your game is dependant on your physical capabilities, not compensations with golf equipment.

Golf Tips – The Secret And Crucial Role Of Alignment In Supercharging Your Game!

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

The alignment is an absolutely crucial and vital part to any golfer’s game. You swing round your body, therefore if your body is offline, your swing in turn will be off line and out of sync, resulting in a poor swing and a poor shot, usually ending up deep in the rough.

When setting up to the ball, firstly ensure the clubface is square to the ‘ball to pin line’ (the line between the ball and the pin), and ensure that your shoulders, hips and feet are all parallel to the ‘ball to pin line’, if these 3 are not aligned and one is out, a good body turn is ruined with a poor swing resulting.

When training, on the driving range or wherever you can practise, a useful technique for lining up is to place a club on the floor and check that you’re your feet, hips and shoulders line up with each other, the shoulder alignment is particularly crucial because your body turn starts with your shoulders.

Ideally, you should be lining your body up slightly to the left of the target (slightly to the right for left hand players), as opposed to trying to line your body up with the target itself.

On the course a simple test to see if this is the case, is to look at the target, if you can see your left shoulder, then you are lined up to too far to the right (visa versa for lefthanders), your shoulder should be just out of sight.

Poor Alignment can have several affects, these are all negative. Aligning too far to the left most commonly leads to the slicing of the ball, this occurs because you are not parallel to the line running from ball to pin. As a result the backswing is limited so an ‘out to in’ swing results. As a consequence the club face is slightly open on impact which generates side spin on the ball. This leads to the common problem which is the slice which I will explain in another article.

If you align too far to the right, the opposite will take place and a hook will occur due to the ‘in to out’ swing of the club, although quite common with beginners and inexperienced players.

Often they will subconsciously become aware of this and try to adjust mid-swing, over adjusting by opening up the clubface as impact approaches. This again results in the slicing of the ball, which is very difficult to control and usually leads to ‘the rough’.

Alignment is an often overlooked and crucial part to any golfer’s game and therefore must be addressed for you to succeed at any level of golf. For as long as you’re alignment is out, you will never be able to consistently hit straight accurate shots and will increasingly find yourself hooking or slicing into the rough, turning those pars into bogies and taking your round from a 75 to 85.

So get that alignment sorted and go shoot some birdies.

Teaching Your Boy the Game of Baseball!

Teaching Your Boy the Game

For those who “coach your son” (or those players who are coached by Dear Old Dad), lend me your ears. Here are some quick and easy thoughts to answer the common problems that surround coaching your own kid.

1st & Foremost Help him become the best player that He wants to be. When it becomes more about You, the coach, the player’s Dad . . . rethink immediately because you just became ONE OF THEM! You know the guy who’s son plays shortstop and pitches, he bats 3rd . . . always . . . and probably shouldn’t . . . yes, there are worse things to be than a pushy baseball Dad . . . so the good news is . . . it’s curable! But seriously . . . think about this . . .

2nd Consider the reality of the above and understand that you probably would treat discipline and talk to your own boy differently than you will with the other 12 kids on your team. So when you need to discipline ANY of your team attempt to do this “evenly” and with the same methods. This may take practice as well as having a pre-season discussion with your boy, as he knows Dad and just may attempt to take advantage (I know . . . not my boy!). REVISIT #1 . . . lol. Along with this thought is the idea of playing time and position play. On all teams there are weak links and positions you just cannot find a player to fill. It’s a common problem especially at the younger level up to around age 13.

Here’s my own experience. I have coached my son through many levels, from Tee Ball on up. One year we didn’t have a catcher, so he played catcher a lot when not pitching. At the next level, a player I counted on for a lot of pitching left a hole at short and yet another season, a hole at 2nd. My first reaction each year was the same . . . teach my son the essentials of these positions . . . as long as he understood that he would be helping the team, and me as well. Confiding in him how I was proud of him to make the sacrifice didn’t hurt either.

3rd Is it easy? Not every day. Know this now! Why should it always have to be easy? Very few things that are important to two people are always easy. Know that you are each other’s favorite coach and favorite player. Nothing is more important than that!

Here’s the Downside: Your boy won’t progress quite as quickly in what you may see as his “natural position.”

Here’s the Upside: Until approximately age 14 he doesn’t have a natural position. He has ability and interest in his “natural position” and he has Dad hoping he will play and excel at his “natural position.” But unless any boy gets experience all over the field, he may not truly find that “natural position.”

My son had as much fun as a catcher throughout his 11-12-13 years as any time I ever saw him play another position . . . for whatever his reasons were. His experience there was due to his team’s needs. It ended up allowing him to learn and do something he never really thought much about or had much interest in. It also helped me out of a jam because he got good at it. And yes, he enjoyed it! It also helped our pitchers because he improved where they could count on him . . . and now, as an older player, it allowed him to understand the game infinitely better, now that he is developing into a pitcher and a solid middle infielder.

Ultimately, all it took was he and I initially discussing it (I asked for and frankly needed his help – I truly believe that kids like to help), and secondly I spent time working with him at home, one-on-one, and at the park, which gave us time for just he and I! That time is worth it just by itself. . . the added benefit is that it was time spent at a baseball field!

Under the category of “never say never,” my son’s High School asked him to play shortstop on the JV summer team a few years ago. He regarded it as quite an honor, as he was only an 8th grader in a school of 2,000 students. Although he certainly had, and has, a lot of learning to do at such a complex position…I think he was extremely happy that he was at least forced out of his “natural position” earlier in his career and could call on past game experiences. It certainly made for a more confident and enjoyable transition!

Why Does The Tool Bit Break Easily In Micro Milling?

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Micro milling is one of the three common micro cutting techniques used in micro machining.

In micro milling, the tool bit with diameter as small as 0.1mm is held in a high speed spindle rotating at 20,000 to 150,000 rpm, and used to mill steel, brass and aluminum with depth of cut at about 30 microns and feed rates of 120mm/m to 240mm/m to provide surface quality finishes as good as 0.2 microns.

While micro milling has been successfully applied in manufacturing bio-medical components, embossing dies and micro encoders, the breakage of the tool bit has been identified by many users as a teething problem.

Why does the tool bit break so easily in micro milling as compared to conventional milling?

There are 3 main reasons:

Firstly, when metal is removed by machining, there is a substantial increase in the specific energy required as the chip thickness decreases. This means that in the case of micro machining, as the chip gets thinner with smaller depths of cut, the micro tool bit will be subject to greater resistance when compared to conventional machining. It is as if the workpiece material becomes harder during micro machining. This resistance force is strong enough to exceed the bending strength limit of the tool bit even before the tool experiences any significant wear, and leads to the breakage of the tool bit. One way to prevent this is to make the chip thickness smaller than the edge radius of the tool bit.

Secondly, a sharp increase in cutting forces and stress from chip clogging during the micro milling process would cause the tool bit to break. In most micro milling operations using miniature micro tool bit with two cutting edges, each cutting edge removes the chips from the machining area only within half a rotation. However, if chip clogging occurs, the cutting forces and stresses will increase beyond the bending strength limit of the tool bit within a few tool rotations, and the tool bit will break. Some users prefer high speed steel tool bits as these are very much more flexible and tolerate clogging better than carbide tool bits.

Third, the tool bit tends to lose its cutting edge due to built-up edge and cannot machine efficiently. As the workpiece starts to push on the tip of the tool bit, the tool bit will deflect slightly. The increase in tool deflection and the stress generated by the milling with every rotation will eventually cause the breakage of the tool bit. This process is also called extensive stress-related breakage.

In view of the above phenomena occurring in micro milling, most micro milling machines are sold with sensors to measure the forces acting on the tool bit, and advanced CAM software to predict the chip load throughout the micro machining process. In this way, precision manufacturers seeking a niche in micro milling could try to keep their machines running smoothly with minimal machine downtime.

7 Habits Of Spectacularly Unsuccessful People

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

WARNING! If you want to have a fantastic life, never engage yourself in these 7 deadly habits that incompetent people do.

NUMBER 1 – They Think, Say, & Do Negative Things.

Yes. They see problems in EVERY opportunity.

They complain that the sun is too hot. They cursed the rain for ruining their plans for the day. They blame the wind for ruining their hair.

They think that everyone is against them. They see the problems but never the solutions.

Every little bit of difficulty is exaggerated to the point of tragedy. They regard failures as catastrophes.

They become discouraged easily instead of learning from their mistakes.

They never seem to move forward because they’re always afraid to come out of their comfort zones.

NUMBER 2 – They Act Before They Think.

They move based on instinct or impulse. If they see something they like, they buy at once without any second thought.

Then they see something better. They regret & curse for not able to take advantage of the bargain.

Then they spend & spend again until nothing’s left. They don’t think about the future. What they’re after is the pleasure they will experience at present.

They don’t think about the consequences. Those who engage in unsafe sex, criminality, and the like are included in this group.

NUMBER 3 – They Talk Much More Than They Listen

They want to be the star of the show. So they always engage in talks that would make them heroes, even to the point of lying.

Oftentimes they are not aware that what they’re saying is not sensible anymore.

When other people advise them, they close their ears because they’re too proud to admit their mistakes.

In their mind they’re always correct. They reject suggestions because that will make them feel inferior.

NUMBER 4 – They Give Up Easily

Successful people treat failures as stepping stones to success.

Incompetent ones call it quits upon recognizing the first signs of failure.

At first, they may be excited to start an endeavor. But then they lose interest fairly quickly, especially when they encounter errors.

Then they go & search for a new one. Same story & same results. Incompetent people don’t have the persistence to go on and fulfill their dreams.

NUMBER 5 – They Try to Bring Others Down To Their Level

Incompetent people envy other successful individuals. Instead of working hard to be like them, these incompetent ones spread rumors and try every dirty trick to bring them down.

They could’ve asked these successful ones nicely. But no, they’re too proud. They don’t want to ask advise. Moreover, they’re too negative to accomplish anything.

NUMBER 6 – They Waste Their Time

They don’t know what to do next. They may just be contented on eating, getting drunk, watching TV, or worse, staring at the blank wall with no thoughts whatsoever to improve their lives.

It’s perfectly fine to enjoy once in a while. But time should be managed efficiently in order to succeed. There should be a proper balance between work & pleasure.

NUMBER 7 – They Take the Easy Way Out

If there are two roads to choose from, incompetent people would choose the wider road with less rewards than the narrower road with much better rewards at the end.

They don’t want any suffering or hardship. They want a good life.

What these people don’t know is that what you reap is what you sow. Efforts & action will not go unnoticed.

If only they would be willing to sacrifice a little, they would be much better off.

Successful people made it through trials & error. They never give up. They are willing to do everything necessary to achieve what they aspire for in life.

Setting up a Web Server – The Most Important Step to Hosting your Website from Home

Monday, January 19th, 2009

You might be trying to decide whether you want to host your website yourself rather than pay a hosting company. Maybe you just want to learn how it is done, or you want to save some money by doing it yourself. In this article I’ll discuss the most important part of hosting your website from home, the web server.

The word “server” sounds scary and because of this many people think only a professional hosting company can host a website. This is not true. A server is nothing more than software that runs in the background listening to requests from “clients.” The client in our case is an internet browser, like Internet Explorer.

How do you get a web server? Most Windows operating sytems come with a web server that just needs to be installed. There are also web servers than can be downloaded for free, like Apache. I’m not going to go over how to do this. In this article I’ll discuss the concepts and what’s needed to get your web server up and running and serving your site to the public after it’s been installed. Every web server is different but the concepts are the same. By going over the general concepts that are true for any web server, you’ll know what to look for regardless of the software you are using.

Like I mentioned before, a server is just software that runs in the background. A web server is a server that listens to requests from internet browsers for a specific page, finds that page in the computer it is running on and then sends it to the browser that requested it. Keeping this in mind, can you believe there are actually just two things you need to do to have your web server configured?

1) Tell your web server where to find your web site. Your website probably consists of multiple pages. You need to tell the web server the path of the folder where you keep your pages. For example, when someone types www.yourdomain.com/main.html, the server will look in the folder where all your pages live, and look for file main.html.

2) Tell your web server about your default page. This is the page that is displayed when someone types www.yourdomain.com in their browser without specifying a page. The web server already has some default page names like “index.html” so if you have a page with this name it will be displayed by default when no document is specified in the request. You may also add some more default file names to your web server. If you don’t want to name your file “index.html” you can tell your web server that your default page’s name is “mainpage.htm.”

This is basically all there is to configuring your web server. Actually, there is more, but these two steps will allow your web server to start serving your website. Of course, there is also more to hosting your website from home, like getting a domain name, dealing with your router if you have one, but these topics are beyond the scope of this article. I hope I’ve convinced you of how easy it is to set up a web server, which happens to be the most important step to hosting your website from home.

A Full-on Fastpitch Bat Review

Monday, January 19th, 2009

You need this fastpitch bat review whether you’re working your way through the minors, struggling to make an Olympic squad, or just enjoying yourself in a local league. There are dozens of bats on the market, so you need to be able to tell the wheat from the chaff, the home runs from the foul balls.

Where else should we start but the granddaddy of baseball bat manufacturers, Louisville Slugger. Their latest lineup of fastpitch bats is a who’s who of bats. Start with the 2005 Louisville Slugger Warrior Adult Baseball Bat. At a weight of -3, this bat is made from an exclusive Alcoa aluminum alloy. The Warrior alloy gets a proprietary heat treatment that affords the bat an incredible and unparalleled level of strength. In fact, the Warrior is the strongest alloy ever used by Louisville.

An old-favorite in most fastpitch bat review articles, the Louisville Slugger Omaha XS Adult baseball bat is back for its seventh production run. The Omaha was first introduced in 1998, and it’s as good as ever. Its Scandium XS alloy from Alcoa carries with it the utmost in performance potential and durability thanks to its proprietary heat treatment. With a weight of -3, the Omaha matches college and high school BESR bat standards.

The Louisville Slugger 2004 TPX Response bat comes with its own exclusive aluminum alloy as well, the GEN1X with Scandium. GEN1X with Scandium is a blend of all the great traits of both GEN1X and Scandium, durability and the best alloy-strengthening additive made for baseball bats. This gives the Response a balance, thickness, and power that you’ll find hard to match in other baseball bats.

Of course, this fastpitch bat review is by far not complete. But you definitely cannot go wrong with one of these three superb Louisville Slugger models. Unless you’re a pro. In that case, sorry, you cannot benefit from the high-tech aluminum alloys!

Call Accounting Software for Every Enterprise

Friday, January 16th, 2009

Communication facilities are the lifeline of most successful businesses and often the most difficult to manage. The success of any organization is directly related to its ability to address the changing needs of its people and customers. Management of telephone charges, equipment fees, VoIP traffic, internet usage, and provider discounts is a difficult task. Most communication managers demand the necessary tools to allow administrators to monitor, evaluate, forecast and allocate communications management services and expenses.

Communications facilities are continuing to evolve at a rapid rate. Call accounting is generally the centerpiece of a complete communication management solution (CMS) to allow customers to track, process and allocate communications transactions (analog, VoIP and data).

Communications transactions are generally delivered to call accounting systems where this information is processed real-time, summarized or submitted to a central server for multi-site consolidation.

For many years, long distance traffic was monopolized by the major telephone companies. Today, the complex and competitive sphere of alternate services, long distance carriers and countless discount strategies leaves most customers baffled about best available savings. A robust call accounting system will provide a concise unbiased picture of comparative rate structures using concrete historical data.

Customer relationship management is fundamental to the success of many organizations. Shadow CMS utilizes calling line information delivered the telephone system for comprehensive inbound traffic analysis. These reports assist in designing regional campaigns, network planning and call center staffing.

Network performance is critical in a call center, emergency dispatch service, hospitality, government or even a small business. Call accounting produces statistics for trunk usage, grade of service, all trunks busy and peak/busy hour analysis. Call accounting pinpoints over or under capacity environments. Many organizations struggle with workforce management and productivity. Good call accounting software provides exception management reports which highlight long duration, excessive cost and misdialed calls. Each call may be pinpointed to a particular password, account code, extension or authorization number. Call accounting provides detailed telephone charges reports, which highlight usage practices

Professional services firms often face the tedious task of allocating communications expenses to customer account files. Call accounting delivers expense account code, password or authorization code reports. These results can be automatically directed to accounting systems, spreadsheets, HTML, email and a variety of other formats.

In hospitality environments, information is processed in real time, assigned a cost and immediately delivered to property management room folios for true billing integration.

A robust call accounting system provides a series of sophisticated traffic analysis reports (that utilize CCS, Erlang and Erlang B) to determine network efficiency and alternate cost modeling for facility planning. In retail and direct customer service environments, a call accounting system should extendsits communications analysis to custom call routing (CCR), voice mail and interactive voice recognition reporting (IVR). This paints a total picture of communication activity,
