Attitude of Gratitude

Friday, January 16th, 2009

An attitude of gratitude? People often to think it will come from having some great luck or fortune. Of course it could feel great to win the lottery, and great friends, money, houses, travel – these are all good things, but not enough by themselves. The right frame of mind is necessary to fully enjoy life. You need the attitude of gratitude.

Gratitude 101

Your life is better when you feel blessed, when you can look around and say “Thank you, God,” or “Thank you universe.” Whether or not you are religious, when you see life as a wonderful gift, your experience is a richer one. Imagine going through life like you’re a child, and every morning is Christmas.

Of course, it is easy to think that gratitude comes from having what we want. We might imagine ourselves giving thanks if we had money, a loving family, and maybe a house on the beach. But we know there are ungrateful, unhappy people with these things. We also know that there are poor people full of gratitude for what little they have, so where does this feeling come from?

Creating Gratitude

An attitude of gratitude arises from how you look at things. It is the natural feeling that comes when you recognize the real value of the people and things in your life. Focus on the good and you cannot help but have a better attitude and experience of life. Gratitude, then, is something you can encourage, something you can learn.

The first step is to stop and smell the roses. How can you be thankful for something you don’t notice or enjoy? By the way, roses really do smell great.

The second step is to make this appreciative approach to roses and life a habit. You don’t need to ignore the ugliness in the world. Just consciously choose to see the good and beautiful things, until doing so becomes automatic.

One way to encourage this habit is to start writing down every positive thing that happens to you, and all the things you like. Continue this until you start automatically seeing the good things in life. If you’ve ever bought a white car, and started seeing white cars all over, you know how awareness and focus can alter your perception of reality. In the same way, once you are aware of the good, and start looking for it, you’ll start to see wonderful things all over.

Simple exercises like the one above train your mind with time. When you are in the habit of “counting your blessings,” gratitude, and a much richer experience of life is the natural result. You will have an attitude of gratitude.

Rock Climbing Basics

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Rock climbing is an exhilarating sport and one that is growing in popularity. Today, people of all ages are taking up this fun but physically demanding activity. Many aspects of rock climbing appeal to those partaking in this sport, but one thing which stands out most is that this is an activity that can be done both indoors and out.

Man-made rock climbing walls are perfect for training and for when the weather conditions outside are less than desirable. Indoor rock climbing walls are a great way to learn the various rock climbing techniques while being under the careful watch of more experienced rock climbing professionals. Because they’re made to resemble the characteristics you’d find in a natural rock environment, many rock climbers never even venture outdoors. But for those who do, the outdoors experience is truly unique and awe-inspiring.

Countless rock climbing opportunities await those who do venture outdoors. Not all rocks though are optimum for the rock climber. First in importance is whether the rock face can be traversed horizontally or vertically. Equally important is that the rocks chosen for rock climbing must be solid rocks and they must be stable. Also look for locations where the weather is predictable, and where trails already exist.

Although this is a relatively safe activity if undertaken using the proper rock climbing equipment, rock climbing can be a dangerous sport, especially for those who venture far off the ground and away from more densely populated areas. It’s one thing to want to climb in an uncrowded area, but should an emergency situation develop, being close to others could mean the difference between getting timely help and not getting the help the injured party needs to survive.

Many people mistakenly believe that the majority of rock climbing injuries result from falling. This belief might simply result from the fact that rock climbers who fall get more attention from local authorities, rescue squads and even the media. However, most rock climbing injuries occur to the hands, tendons, elbows and shoulders and are caused by straining and overuse. Although these types of injuries are not preventable, their occurrence can be reduced by taking time to properly warm up and stretch out these body parts. Using the right rock climbing equipment for the journey ahead is also advisable.

Rock climbing shoes are a must and help ensure a proper grip on the sometimes slippery surfaces. Helmets, which unfortunately aren’t worn by many climbers, are a good way to prevent serious head injury. A rock climbing harness that is in excellent condition with no frayed or worn out parts, climbing ropes, webbing, karabiners and belay devices are other essential pieces of rock climbing gear.

Keep the above rock climbing basics in mind before venturing out on your next rock climbing adventure and you’ll hopefully keep rock climbing accidents to a minimum.

Ironman Brasil — About The Race

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Consider Ironman-Brasil for your first attempt at Ironman glory. Many triathlons are very difficult to enter unless you are on the race-site the first day of entry or sitting at your computer. Ironman Canada for instance usually fills on the first day. Your chances of getting into the Ironman-Brasil Telecom race is very good.

If you want the perfect location and race for your first Ironman, give Ironman-Brasil serious consideration. Of course from North America it can be costly, but much like hawaii, you can make a holiday out of it as well.

The course itself also seems to suit the first time Ironman. The swim is protected so the water will not be rough. The course is a two-loop triangle. As an age-grouper Ironman-Brasil is allowing wetsuits to be worn.

The bike course is safe and relatively flat with some challenging hills.

The run is much the same and very scenic.

The transition area is well spotted near a water-park and shopping area, so family and friends will have lots to occupy them while you are out on the course.

The Ironman-Brasil Telecom race takes place on Florianapolis Island. Just one hour flight from Rio de Janeiro and San Paulo city.

The 2006 version will take place on Sunday, May 28 and the final day for registration is May 1, 2006.

The 2005 version had 1,172 entries and the 2006 race is limited to 1200 entries. Most ironman races increase in size every year until they finally fill on a regular basis. You will have extra time to enter Ironman-Brasil, but don’t leave it too long.

Here are the contact numbers for you:

Get Your Football Tickets Somehow, Someway

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

As a fan of a very popular and successful professional football team, I know it can be difficult to get tickets, but what if you want to buy Detroit lion tickets? In recent history, the Detroit Lions have not been overly successful, but does that make the tickets any cheaper or easier to obtain? I suppose it depends on who sets ticket prices and how often they sell out their stadium, no matter what their record is. The more I look into it, the more I realize that the best prices on about anything can be found online, and Detroit lion tickets, or any NFL tickets for that matter, are no exception. All you need to do, then, is understand the step by step process of buying Detroit lion tickets online to get the best price possible.

The first couple of steps may seem obvious, but it is important that you are prepared when you to make your Detroit lion ticket purchase. First of all, you will need to figure out which game you want to attend. Is there a particular opponent you want to see? If not, you can just check all games and see where there is availability. Many games for a number of NFL teams are sold out before the season even begins, due to the enormous popularity of pro football. However, just in case, go online to the Detroit Lions’ official website and check to see if there are tickets available for the game you want to see. If so, you are in luck, the team will be selling the tickets at face value, which is really as low as you can expect to get them for unless you are buying an enormous quantity of Detroit lion tickets.

If you are planning a season or more ahead to buy your Detroit lion tickets, you may want to join the team’s waitlist of fan club. You will, then, likely get access tickets on a preferential basis. In addition, you will likely have a great shot at playoff tickets if that is something that becomes an issue during the season. Because no matter which game you want to go to, Detroit lion tickets for the playoffs sure would make for a good time.

Another option is to buy your Detroit lion tickets from a ticket broker. Brokering is illegal in some states, but rarely prosecuted. If you are concerned, however, just check with your local and state laws to make sure everything you do is on the up and up. A broker will buy up tickets to sold out events and resell them for a profit. Your Detroit Lion tickets won’t be cheap going this route, but you are likely to get tickets to whatever event you would like to. If you want to bottom feed a little bit more, there are always ticket scalpers around on game day. They basically do what brokers do, only without the office. If you are the type who likes to wheel an deal and doesn’t mind gambling a bit, you can certainly do all of those things if you get your Detroit Lion tickets from a ticket scalper.

Tickets for any NFL team, yes even the Detroit Lions, are difficult to get sometimes. However, if you plan out which game you want to see, getting the Detroit Lions tickets you want is not difficult. You may have to spend some money, but if you get to see the game you want, isn’t it worth it?

Golf Fitness Dominates The PGA Tour

Friday, January 9th, 2009

Have you been curious why some golfers seem to take control and rule the tournaments these days? Tiger Woods is the golfer who is widely acknowledged with starting the revolution in fitness training, although many players before him like Gary Player are known exercise enthusiasts. While Tiger made it not only acceptable, but preferable, to train for golf, the majority of players are now taking their fitness levels very seriously.

Do you have to be fit to play good golf? You may be surprised to hear me say “no”. However, if you want to be able to place at the top of the leader board on a consistent basis from tournament to tournament, then the answer changes to absolutely “yes”.

Physical conditioning is critical to every major contributing factor in your game including swing mechanics, stamina, mental acuity and good judgment. The ability to continue the through a tournament in peak form is a competitive advantage for any golfer in the peak of his season.

Assuming you understand and agree with the concept of physical conditioning for golf, then how do you get started?

Give some honest and open thought to your current level of conditioning. You likely know best where you may be falling short on consecutive rounds of golf. Are you feeling weak? Do you feel tired? Do you feel sharp mentally? Are you tight? If so, where?

The answer to these questions is what helps you to set your goals and priorities moving forward. Flexibility may be your single biggest issue or just a small portion of the weaknesses you face today. Maybe stamina is a small issue, yet strength loss is a major factor. It could be just one thing or any combination of things that work together and against your game.

When you set your fitness goals, begin with your weaknesses, not your strengths. This will allow you to improve your game the quickest. All of your efforts will make the difference between a good golfer and an elite pro golfer.

It was a triple scoop at Cascata.

One scoop of celebrity surprises, second scoop spectacular scenery, and the third scoop was filled with sensational golf when the Michael Douglas and Friends Celebrity Golf Tournament converged at Cascata Golf Course in Boulder City, Nevada. It was one of those spring days that you felt lucky to be alive! (Opening photo: Michael Douglas celebrates “Closest to the Hole” win at the Michael Douglas & Friends charity golf event at Cascata.).

Being part of the paparazzi for the day and experiencing the rush of star power mixed with media frenzy, and the thrill of competitive golf was scintillating. Michael Douglas, Kenny G. , Andy Garcia, Heather Locklear, Shelby Lynne, Kyle Mac Lachlan, Leslie Nielsen, Haley Joel Osment, William Petersen, Joe Pesci, Martin Sheen, Robert Wagner, Mark Whalberg. and Luke Wilson, provided the star power and sportsmanship to tee off for a good cause and raise money for the Motion Picture and Television Fund for members of the film industry who have fallen on hard times. Past events have raised more than $1.5 million.

They say, “Do what you love and the money will follow!” These celebrities proved this to be true as they competed for the Lexus $1 million hole-in-one shoot out that occurred just prior to the taping of the 6th annual Michael Douglas & Friends Celebrity Golf presented by Lexus. They all gathered on the practice tee warming up their swing for the shoot out. It didn’t seem quite fair that these celebrities could be great golfers AND super-stars as well.

Vegas Show TicketsAlice Cooper plays golf 254 days a year, although I found out that he’s never played with his makeup on. He’s a scratch golfer. Haley Joel Osment from the Sixth Sense, is sixteen years old and gave all the others quite a run for their money. (He had his own peanut gallery of twelve-year-old girls following him around.) Haley plays on his high school golf team. Kenny G. had great rhythm to his swing. Andy Garcia was just as sexy in person as he is in the movies. Mark Walberg from Sex in the City, takes the game seriously, while Heather Locklear looked as great in person as she does on the screen. She’s quite a free spirit! Shelby Lynne, the country western singer looked like the only beginner, but she was such a good sport no one minded. Tom Arnold, with his size thirteen shoes declared himself the comic relief in his foursome. Robert Wagner was the penultimate gentleman and gave Shelby Lynne a few golf tips to ease her nervousness. Everyone was ready to show the crowd that they could compete with the best of them.

Jetsetters Magazine Golf MallButch Harmon, one of the top teaching professionals in the world was on hand to give everyone a few golf tips. (He was Tiger Woods coach.) He said that the key to a good golf swing was to stay in your own rhythm. He said that a lot of people think that hitting the ball hard is how you become a good golfer. But he said that the key to a great swing and good golf is to find your own natural rhythm and to stay within. That’s probably why Kenny G. is such a great golfer. Even though he’s small in frame, he’s got tremendous rhythm and is consistently staying within his personal rhythm and swing. Alice Cooper does the same, even though he’s hunched over in stance from all his rock and roll days, he swings to the rhythm of his own beat and the ball flies straight towards the hole. After listening to Butch Harmon, I could see that finding your own tempo is a key element to a good golf swing.

Duffer DVDsI didn’t realize that Cascata Golf Course won Golf Magazine honors for one of the top 20 courses built in the U.S. since 1959. It is ranked the best course in Nevada. Cascata is an exclusive desert golf club owned by Caesars Entertainment, Inc. This stunning 400-acre golf facility is set in the foothills of the River Mountains range near Boulder City, just 30 minutes south of Las Vegas. It is designed by legendary golf architect Rees Jones. The course is available exclusively to guests of Caesars Entertainment resorts, so it was quite a privilege to be on the inside of those gates and thrilling to walk this beautiful and exclusive course.

It soars 3200 feet above the Las Vegas desert valley. The par-72 course drapes across mountain slopes that provide striking vistas at every turn. The lush fairways take your breath away as they meander for 7,200 yards through the mountain terrain amid the stark

Finding Items To Sell On Ebay

Friday, January 9th, 2009

There are lots of people selling great new items on Ebay every day but many Ebay items are old used things that you have already. A good place to start searching for items to sell is your own home. You can start in your garage where you could find something rare and valuable, along with all that other stuff you’ve had for years. All its takes is one day to organize everything then spend that next day using your digital camera to take pictures of all your items. For the remainder of the week you can just focus on writing descriptions for the items and deciding on the starting price. You should now have your garage clean and your pockets full of cash, and no more items for Ebay in your home.

You should then go around to all of your friends houses and people that you know and ask them can you take all of their old stuff that they do not need any more. If you want you can offer to pay them for it, and even clean and sweep when you’re done. Take all of the items you got from the different places and put them on Ebay. You now have more profit in your pocket.

Next, buy your local newspaper and search for garage sales and yard sales that are close to you. Go there to see if they have rare or vintage stuff that would sell on Ebay. After you have done that, search your area for flea markets. Flea markets have lots of great Ebay items.

When you’ve finished selling all those, you should have a great profit from old used items on Ebay so now its time to start selling new items. You can start by finding a wholesale supplier in your area. With a wholesale suppler you buy in bulk, so save some money from your profits from your used auction sales. Just buy a small amount of wholesale items at a time, and then put them on Ebay to see how they do, and then put more online. Also remember to research the price of the new items you are putting up for auction. To do this, just go to Ebay’s website and search on closed auctions. This should bring up all the closed auction prices so you will know what price to start your auctions at and you will know what the buy it now price should be.

You can also get great items from other online auction sites. Just do a search for what you want on any auction site, bid for it and you may get it for a good price. Put that item for sale on another auction site and get your profit.

So remember to start with your own items. When you have sold all those, offer to clean your friends garage and offer them cash. Then go to garage sales, yard sales, and flea markets. After that, wholesalers is where you can get more items for Ebay. This should help you find items to sell on Ebay and earn yourself some profit.

Accessibility : How to Design an Acessible Wb Site

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Step 1 – Get used to looking at the code

If you use Dreamweaver as i do, i recommend moving into split screen mode from the start. The more you are aware of what is happening in the code area, the easier adjustments will feel at the fine tuning stages.

If you use Frontpage or other editors then the principle above applies. Still to this day many web designers are happy using notepad. What ever you do – Dont ever use Word. Yes you can make a web site – but no the code is dreadful. Almost a crime. So much so that Dreamweaver has its own command to clean up Word HTML!

It may seem very difficult initially to loose the WYSIWYG way of doing things, but try and combine the two. Use the WYSIWYG interface and then adjust the code thereafter. Having skills with HTML code is not an easy stept, especially for people who are not very comfortable with HTML. It is, however, a very important step toward Web accessibility. Proper, standards-based HTML lends itself toward accessibility. Assistive technologies rely on proper HTML more so than most Web browsers. Valid HTML has many other benefits as well, including a decreased likelihood for cross-browser differences or incompatibilities and better support for emerging technologies.

Step 2 – Get that HTML valid

To validate the accessibility of your page’s HTML, use the W3C’s HTML validator at w3.org. The results are often overwhelming at first. Most people are not even aware of the intricate rules and standards for HTML use. Even if you are using professional Web development software programs it is likely that your page will not validate as proper HTML when first validated. Be sure to read the explanations as to why the page does not validate as proper HTML. Learn about the common HTML mistakes and do what you can to fix them.

You may find it useful to download the lite version of CSE HTML Validator. It has no spyware and includes a spellchecker as well as an extremely powerful HTML validator. htmlvalidator.com/lite/

Creating proper HTML is a challenge, but one that every web developer should take upon him or herself. When you understand the rules of HTML, you are much more likely to choose an accessible web site service that is more usable and accessible to all.

Step 3 – Get that HTML accessible

Once you have created proper HTML within your page see (previous step 2), many of your accessibility issues will be gone, because proper HTML requires many accessibility techniques, such as alt text and summaries. The next step is to find other accessibility issues that may be present in your page. This is where automated accessibility tools come into play. It is noteworthy that aotomated accessible tools do not check all areas of a sites accessibility. There are many manual areas that will require your approval.

Below are some excellent tools we have used in making sites accessible:

WebXact http://Webxact.net/
Bobby Online Service bobby.watchfire.com/bobby/html/en/index.jsp
Wave 3.5 wave.Webaim.org/wave35/index.jsp
Accessibility Valet Demonstrator valet.webthing.com/access/url.html
AccMonitor Online hisoftware.com/accmonitorsitetest/
Cynthia Says cynthiasays.com/fulloptions.asp
TAW tawdis.net/
Torquemada Webxtutti.it/testa_en.htm
see http://www.zanet.co.uk/ for full list of tools

The Wave accessibility tool is a great place to start – wave.webaim.org/. The Wave provides useful information about accessibility features and errors within your page. It is designed to facilitate the design process by adding icons to a version of your page. The icons represent structural, content, usability, or accessibility feature or problems within your content. You can easily see the exact location within your page where an error is present.

The Wave (or any other software-based validator) cannot check all accessibility issues, but it checks nearly everything that can possibly be checked in an automated process. As soon as you have fixed the errors and applicable warnings from the Wave, you may want to validate your page using other accessibility validators in the links above. This ensures nothing has been missed in the automating process.

If you need to validate or audit the accessibility of an entire site, there are many evaluation tools you can use, including HiSoftware’s line of products (hisoftware.com/) or InFocus (ssbtechnologies.com/).

You have now completed some of the main challenges with the process of making accessible web sites. The next stage we will look at is Testing in a screen reader. This will enable you to get an idea of what it is really like to face your site from a visitors view point.

Step 4 – You become the user.

You have already written a valid HTML web site and have covered the neccessary changes to meet all the requirements to say “yes my site is now accessible” But the proofs in the eating of it. How does it really stand up to the tests. In fact if you were the user using a screen reader how would you really cope? Could you navigate to all areas of your site?

It is a great idea to have a copy of a screen reader available for testing. I suggest IBM HomePage Reader because it is easy to use and learn, whereas other full-featured screen readers are more expensive and have a very steep learning curve. First listen to the entire page without stopping. Did everything make sense? Did the screen reader access all of the content? Was the alternative text for images appropriate and equivalent enough to convey the content and meaning of the image? Was the reading order of the content logical?

Now try navigating the page with the screen reader. Are link labels descriptive? Were forms accessible via the keyboard? Were form labels included? If the page includes data tables, were data cells associated with headers? Did the navigation structure make sense? Was there an option to navigate within lengthy pages of content? Was content structure, such as headings and lists, correctly implemented? Was any multimedia accessible (i.e., did video have captions, audio have transcripts, Flash have an alternative, etc.)?

Another area to check is keyboard accessibility. Just access the page and make sure that you can navigate through the entire Web page using the tab key. Ensure that every link and form item is accessible and that all forms can be filled out and submitted via the keyboard. If any content is displayed based upon mouse actions, make sure the content is also available using the keyboard.

Now you have a much clearer understanding of what is really required to make a web site truly accessible to all members of the public.

Step 5 – Is Mr WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) happy?

It is well worth bookmarking sites such as the WCAG site so that you can become familiar with the principles neede for current and future guidelines. Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. This reference document for accessibility principles and design ideas is where it all happens. Some of the strategies discussed in this document address certain Web internationalization and mobile access concerns. However, this document focuses on accessibility and does not fully address the related concerns of other W3C Activities.

The WCAG are a very complete set of accessibility guidelines. They are so complete that sometimes it is nearly impossible to comply with them. Though some of the guidelines are rather vague and some are outdated, they will give you a good idea of what it takes to be truly accessible. Manually evaluate your page against these guidelines. The WCAG guidelines are broken into three priority levels, based upon level of importance or impact on accessibility – at very least, try to meet the Priority I and Priority II guidelines. The Priority III guidelines are more of a wish list for accessibility, but contain some very important items that should be included whenever possible. The Wave toolbar can alert you of non-compliance with many of the WCAG guidelines.

Step 6 – The final judgement

If you want to know the real truth of how accessible your site is, you won’t go far wrong with listening to your audience. At the end of the day its there say that dictates whether your site was accessed. So get feedback from individuals with disabilities. Most are very willing to give you feedback if it will help increase the accessibility of your content to the disability community.

Sometimes features of the site that you believed would increase accessibility end up being very confusing or inaccessible. Be willing to make changes based on user testing. Especially seek feedback on your navigation structure and use of language. These two things can pose huge accessibility barriers to a large group of individuals. As soon as their recommendations for changes have been made, have them test again and see if things are better. Encourage feedback from all of your site visitors.

Web accessibility is a continual process and one that should be evaluated often. Each time you update or change content, quickly run through the previous 5 steps. You will quickly get very good at them and eventually you will understand how to both evaluate and create accessible Web content.

Countless super dear cell phones sell on the basis of marketing, brand and aesthetics at prices that are unjustified given the lack of high end features. Unfortunately, Apple Iphones target audience, early 20s, gets to regret the loss of this feature only after spending years worth of salary on it. Hence make sure that your unbelievable new mobile phone has all the features like cameras you require before paying up. Since mobile corporations will never tell folk about the super features like movie players that their cell phones lack, researching online mobile write-ups is the very best way to do it.
