Florence and the Machine Are Bookies Favourites for Music Prize
Friday, August 7th, 2009Bookies have released odds for this year’s Mercury Music Prize award and it seems that they cannot pick a winner.
Florence and the Machine and Bat For Lashes are the most likely candidates to win at the moment and are the most likely to be the two left battling it out for the title. Florence and the Machine are backed at 10/3 with Stan James and Bat For Lashes is at 4/1 with Bet365.
Although these are the two that are the most likely to win, it has been known in the past for an outsider to come along and steel the title so the other acts must not be ruled out. The Horrors can be backed at 7/1 with Paddy Power to win and Friendly Fires are at 9/1 with Stan James.
Who? Florence And The Machine – London’s Florence Welch and her backing music named the Machine.
What? Her debut album Lungs released 6 July 2009 on Island Records.
Why? Lungs is set to be one of the best albums of 2009. Quirky and extraordinary, Florence Welch is a breath of fresh air in a stale indie scene. She has already received Critics Choice award at the Brits back in February.
Why not? Her album has only just been released so her hype has been based mainly on her live performances rather than Lungs. She has also received a lot of bad reviews due to her love/hate appeal.
