A True Bowling Trusted Resource, Your Neighborhood Bowling pro Shop

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

I regularly hear from a Nintendo Wii bowler eager to approach this intricate sport with improved precision and consistency. Should that be the case, you’re approaching a crucial cross-roads in growing as a real bowler. Our “Next Steps” handbook to “Bowling Like a Pro” may take your game to new levels. The guys at a nearby bowling pro shop are there to assist you in harnessing bowling skills. A wise bowling wizard once said: knock the pins down to win! I kid. I admit, if only it were that simple. No worry, we’ll get you throwing the best way we know how.

Most importantly, invest a little in custom fit equipment at your bowling pro shop! Rentals and house balls suck. I promise, have your own ball drilled, and your game will benefit. A well fitted bowling ball can make a substantial improvement in your game. The same goes for wearing well-made bowling shoes which smell fresh, look good and help your foot work.

Since you may have previous bought comfortable bowling ball and shoes, now it’s time for the second best piece of bowling advice: aiming the ball. While you wait to roll, don’t necessarily roll the ball at your actual target, the pins. Line up using the markings like a barrel of a gun. Why, you ask? You’ll find it more effective to aim for a target which sits nearer. For it to work right, include it as part of your routine to line-up at the a consistent place 4 steps from the foul line each time. Only then you can perfect your aim using the arrows in the lane.

As for curves, to achieve specific action on the pins? It is our next best piece of bowling advice. They get traction with the their expensive reactive resin balls. Actually, professional bowlers travel with two or three bowling balls to get ridiculous pin action, according to the lane. However intermediates should avoid putting on a show, and steer clear of a ball that weighs a ton. A lot of semi-pro bowlers opt for bowling balls with reactive materials. However you should know these pro bowling balls can make even some well known bowlers appear silly. And that does it for our first three bowling tips. A pro from our bowling shop will return next week.

–Michael Rogers

We manage our team (the “Strykers”) comprised of the operation at Bowling Pro Shop here in Kansas City. I offer guidance to novice bowlers at my blog and in the pro shop. Lastly, I should give a shout out to my team heading into tournament play. Best of luck.
